MEDIAPRO official supplier of video refereeing to the Portuguese Football Federation
The Group has been appointed by FIFA to provide this service in all national and international competitions

The MEDIAPRO Group has been appointed by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) as an Official Provider of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology for the next 5 seasons. MEDIAPRO will supply the technical and professional resources to ensure service in all stadiums in Portugal. The Audiovisual Group has completed the FIFA / IFAB homologation processes to provide video-arbitration services in both international and national competitions and is already a VAR supplier for FIBA competitions, such as this year’s FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017. The MEDIAPRO Group will make an investment in the region of €1 million in its VAR installations in Portugal. The VAR system, or Video Assistant Referee, is being increasingly used to help referees decide whether fouls have been committed or to make a ruling on questionable play.

The centralized model created to deliver the project includes the construction of a VAR Center in the headquarters of the Portuguese Federation in Lisbon’s Cidade do Futebol. Subsequently, the centre will receive the signal from cameras installed in the grounds of every Portuguese clubs. MEDIAPRO will provide the project teams and technical resources necessary to apply instant smart replay technology in the analysis of questionable or conflicting plays as well as the mobile units located in the stadiums. The design and construction of the technical infrastructure at the VAR Center has also been the responsibility of the Group’s Engineering Division.

With this project, MEDIAPRO consolidates its position as one of the most important suppliers in the VAR technology market, offering clients turnkey solutions which it incorporates within the scope of solution provision to comply with IFAB / FIFA VAR protocol requirements and which include human resources, technology and television production, when necessary. MEDIAPRO is also a VAR supplier for FIBA international competitions, having recently implemented the service at this year’s FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 and the company is scheduled to provide this service once again in the upcoming EUROBASKET 2017.

"Esteban", Platino Award for Film & Education Values
Co-produced by MEDIAPRO and directed by Jonal Cosculluela, the film was awarded the prize during the 4th annual international cinema festival

“Esteban”, opera prima of Cuban director Jonal Cosculluela and co-produced by MEDIAPRO, continues adding international recognition to its trophy cabinet. The latest of which is the Platino for Film & Education Values award at the 4th Annual Platino Iberoamerican Film Awards, held in Madrid last July 22. “Esteban” was competing for the prize against “El acompañante” (Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia), “El Jeremías” (Mexico), “Rara” (Chile-Argentina) and “A Monster Calls” (Spain).

The Platino Award for Film & Education Values joins the growing list of accolades and awards "Esteban" began picking up after its presentation at the 42nd Iberoamerican Film Festival in Huelva last November, where the feature won the Special Jury Prize, the Audience Award for Best Feature Film and three additional prizes for the film and its soundtrack, written and performed by Chucho Valdés. In Cuba, where it premiered in the spring of 2016, "Esteban" won the Caracol Awards for Jonal Cosculluela's debut feature film and Chucho Valdés' soundtrack, as well as recognition on behalf of the Cuban Film Press Association. In Cuba, the film also won two Caricato Awards: a Special Recognition for the child actor Reynaldo Guanche for his starring role and the award for Best Female Performance for Yuliet Cruz; two LUCAS awards: Best Soundtrack Video and Best Opera Prima. The film has also received the Bronze Horse at the latest edition of the Stockholm Junior Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award at the Chicago Latino Film Festival.

After doing the rounds at European and American festivals, "Esteban" travelled all the way to Oceania where it was recently screened for the first time on the continent on July 29 at the Perth Latin Film Festival "Cine Vivo" in Australia, an annual film festival dedicated to showcasing the best in Latin American film production. The film will also be screened on 12 and 25 August at the World Cinema Festival in Amsterdam.

Produced by MEDIAPRO in association with RTV Comercial, Producciones Colibrí and AHS, "Esteban" narrates the tale of how the 9-year-old Cuban boy is drawn by the music from a piano and how despite all the difficulties, manages to make his dream of becoming a musician come true. With a screenplay by Amílcar Salatti, the feature stars Reynaldo Guanche (Esteban), who was picked from over 800 children who attended the casting. Reynaldo shares the billing with Cuban actors such as Yuliet Cruz (Miriam), Manuel Porto (piano teacher, Hugo), Mónica Alonso (Sofia) and Ismael Isaac (Agustín). The festival closes with the special interventions from Raúl Pomares and Corina Mestre.

The premiere of LaLiga's return and Spanish team's debut in European competition - all on beIN
The principal UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League playoff matches, the European Super Cup between Real Madrid and Manchester United and the LaLiga return premiere in August on beIN SPORTS, beIN LaLiga and GOL

This August sees the return of the LaLiga, the European Super Cup and the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League playoff rounds, and the long-awaited new season, beIN LaLiga together with beIN SPORTS will offer viewers the very best comprehensive coverage of national and international football.

On the first day of the 2017/2018 season, spectators of beIN LaLiga can enjoy FC Barcelona - Real Betis on Sunday 20 August at 20:15, with the very latest news from Camp Nou prior to and after the match, as well as what the stars of the day’s match have to say.

This season will see the Liga debut of CD Leganés against Deportivo Alavés in beIN LaLiga on Friday, August 18 at 20:15, and Valencia CF - UD Las Palmas at 22:15. The channels line up for Saturday includes the broadcast of RC Celta de Vigo - Real Sociedad at 18:15, at 20:15, Girona FC’s debut in Spanish football’s top division against Atletico Madrid and at 22:15, Sevilla FC - RCD Espanyol. On Sunday, in addition to FC Barcelona - Real Betis, Athletic Club play home at 18:15 to another of this season’s promoted teams to the LaLiga Santander, Getafe CF, while Monday will see UD Levante, also returning to Spanish football’s first division at 20:15 against Villarreal CF.

The second week will also include eight exclusive matches in beIN LaLiga: Real Sociedad - Villarreal CF (Friday 20:15), the day’s highlights from the clash between Deportivo Alavés and FC Barcelona (Saturday 18:15), Levante UD - RC Deportivo de (Saturday 20:15), Girona FC - Málaga CF (Saturday 20:15), UD Las Palmas - Atletico Madrid (Saturday 22:15), RCD Espanyol - CD Leganés (Sunday 18:15), SD Éibar - Athletic Club (Sunday 18:15) and Getafe CF - Sevilla FC (Saturday 20:15).

"Fe de etarras" to take part in the Festival of San Sebastian
The Velodrome section will host the presentation of this film produced by MEDIAPRO for Netflix

“Fe de etarras”, the film produced by MEDIAPRO for Netflix, has been chosen to participate in the 68th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, presented on 28 July. The film, directed by Borja Cobeaga and written by Cobeaga and Diego San Jose, is scheduled to be screened in the Velodrome section.

Starring Javier Cámara, Julián López, Miren Ibarguren and Gorka Otxoa, "Fe de etarras" is an unusual dark comedy set during the warm summer of 2010 in a provincial Spanish capital. A peculiar and dysfunctional ETA commando made up of a veteran fighter who's itching to show he's braver than everyone thinks, a couple whose engagement will only last as long as the terrorist group remains intact and a Castilian who thinks joining the commando will turn him into Chuck Norris are holed up in a safe house waiting for orders, that appear never to come, to jump into action. Meanwhile, the Spanish national team wins the World Cup in South Africa, sending the whole country into delirium….

"Estoy vivo" premieres this coming autumn on TVE
Javier Gutiérrez, Anna Castillo and Alejo Sauras, among other stars, received the press to discuss their characters in this new fiction series produced by Globomedia

“Estoy vivo”, the series produced by Globomedia for TVE currently being filmed. Leading cast members held a meeting with the press on the set of this police fiction with supernatural overtones. For the first time, stars of the series answered questions from the press about the new show TVE has scheduled for release this coming autumn.

Javier Gutiérrez, Roberto Álamo and Anna Castillo, all three Goya-winning actors for their recent work in the world of film, top the billing of cast members of “Estoy vivo”. Alejo Sauras, Cristina Plazas, Alfonso Bassave, Fele Martínez, Jesús Castejón, Lucía Caraballo, Zorion Eguileor, Mon Ceballos and Goizalde Núñez complete the carefully selected cast, with Julia Gutiérrez Caba putting the icing on the cake; a luxury leading award-winning lady whose work has also received recognition from the Spanish Film Academy.

Airs of the supernatural permeate this new concept of police drama. "Estoy vivo" is based around a police investigation. This case establishes the central starting point from where the series later launches into a magical and exciting look at modern-day society. This is a mixture of science fiction targeting adults, with a reality show where the feeling of loss is a constant factor, part of an incredible incident: Police inspector, Andrés Vargas is killed while pursuing the psychopath known as ‘The Midnight Butcher’, who has already claimed the lives of five women. Vargas will have the opportunity to come back to life, even though it is five years later and in the body of Manuel Marquez, another police officer.

MEDIAPRO auditorium hosts the Gaming Ladies event
The exclusive female video gaming event brought together more than 300 participants

This last July 27, the MEDIAPRO auditorium in Barcelona hosted the second edition of Gaming Ladies, a video gaming event exclusively for women which aims to reasserts the role of women in the electronic entertainment industry and offer tools to those who encounter negative experiences. More than 300 participants came together at the forum which was supported by MEDIAPRO and the Spanish Professional Video Gaming League. The event has generated significant interest within the eSports gaming sector.

The Gaming Ladies event consisted of four presentations by four industry professionals which explored the role of women in the field of video games and electronic entertainment and addressed the main obstacles women face from the perspective of gender: Inés Alcolea, community manager of Digital Legends talked about community management in the video games sector and harassment in social networks; Africa Curiel introduced "FemDevs", an association of women videogame developers which seeks to provide a space for and visibility to professional women, students or those interested in the development of video games; Mariona Valls, art director and confounder of Mango Protocol talked about art and video games and finally Judit Tur focused on video gaming localization. After the four talks and their respective Q&A sessions, the debate turned to networking, where participants were given a chance to exchange their experiences.
